Troubleshooting Guide: Galois Wi-Fi Connection Issues (Android)
1. Problem Description
When attempting to discover or connect to the Galois scanner's Wi-Fi network on an Android device, you may encounter the following issues:
-
The network name starting with Realsee-Camera-XXXXXXXXXX does not appear in your Wi-Fi search list.
-
The Wi-Fi disconnects immediately after connecting, or automatically switches back to Cellular Data.
-
Even after connecting to the Wi-Fi network, the capture app displays "Device Disconnected" or fails to trigger the scanner.
2. Solution & Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps to establish a stable local connection between your Android device and the Galois scanner.
Step 1: Turn Off Mobile Data (Recommended)
-
Swipe down from the top of your screen to access the Quick Settings panel.
-
Tap the Cellular Data / Mobile Data icon to switch it OFF.
Recommended Alternative: Enable Airplane Mode, then turn Wi-Fi back ON.
Step 2: Connect to Galois & Confirm System Prompts
-
Ensure the Galois scanner is powered on and the Wi-Fi indicator light remains solid.
-
Open your phone's Wi-Fi settings and select the network starting with Realsee-Camera-XXXXXXXXXX.
-
Enter the default Wi-Fi password (found on the device sticker or in the user manual).
-
Crucial Step: If a system notification appears stating "This network has no internet access. Stay connected?", select "Keep Connected", "Stay Connected", or "Yes".
3. Why Must Mobile Data Be Turned Off?
Purely a Local Area Network (LAN)
The Galois scanner generates a direct local Wi-Fi hotspot dedicated solely to transferring point cloud files and high-resolution spatial image data between the hardware and your mobile app. It does not provide external internet access.
Android System Auto-Switching Mechanisms
-
Captive Portal Checks: Modern Android operating systems (including Stock Android / Google Mobile Services) automatically perform background checks against remote servers (such as Google or OEM servers) to verify internet access upon connecting to any Wi-Fi network.
-
Automatic Routing Shift: When Android detects zero internet access on the Galois Wi-Fi, the OS flags the network as "Poor Quality" or "Unavailable" and automatically routes network requests through your Cellular Data.
-
Command Transmission Failure: As a result, control commands issued by the capture app are misrouted to your mobile carrier's cellular network instead of reaching the scanner's local IP address, causing communication drops or preventing the local hotspot from appearing altogether.
Turning off Mobile Data forces the Android OS to lock all data transmission strictly through the Galois local Wi-Fi channel.
